Goshen Baptist Church keeps growing - Picture take 1957. 

Plans were developed to significantly enlarge the church by adding a rear wing extending from the southeast corner and by relocating both the baptistry and choir loft. The main floor of the new wing provided a much‑needed Sunday School classroom and opened directly into the sanctuary, creating additional seating for worship. The basement offered further classroom space, and new folding curtain walls were installed to divide the existing basement rooms. The project also included a new oil‑fired heating system and a fully renovated kitchen.

Bids totaling $67,000 were received in April 1957, and construction began the following month. Much of the funding had already been raised through an every‑member canvass in 1955, with the remainder supplied through sustained sacrificial giving. The entire cost was paid in full by 1961.

Before work could begin, however, a portion of the cemetery behind the church had to be relocated. The burial ground, part of the original property acquired when the church was organized in 1827, contained graves dating back to 1813. Relocating the sixty‑three graves required permission from the nearest descendants—a challenging task due to incomplete records and families long since moved. Volunteers searched courthouse documents, the Chester County Historical Society library, and newspaper archives. Eventually every family was contacted, and on April 16, 1957, the Court of Common Pleas granted approval for the removals.

Alongside the new construction, the sanctuary was fully refurnished with new pulpit furniture, solid light‑oak pews, and crimson carpeting throughout the aisles and platform. Folding padded chairs were added for the wing, and the recently formed Women’s Evening Fellowship supplied new china and silverware for the renovated kitchen.
