In 1968 bids totaling $340,000 were received, and after much discussion and prayer, the congregation voted to proceed. They also authorized the sale of the existing church—an emotional decision for many who had worshiped, been baptized, and married there.

Because a buyer was unlikely to accept responsibility for the cemetery, the graves were relocated to the new property. After securing township and court approval, 172 burials were carefully moved and re‑established on the new grounds.

Groundbreaking took place in October 1968. Early in construction, a large rock formation required blasting at an additional cost of $17,000, but work continued steadily. By late 1969 the building was nearly complete.
