Pastor Peter Nelson

Pastor Nelson has served as Goshen Baptist Church’s Senior Pastor since his call in February 2006. Before coming to Goshen, he taught at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and Wheaton College, and he holds a Ph.D. in New Testament Studies from Trinity College in Bristol, England.

Under Pastor Nelson’s leadership, Goshen adopted a unified and blended approach to worship that reflects the needs of a multi‑generational congregation. Participation in Bible studies and small groups increased, and the missions committee strengthened its focus on supporting church planting among unreached people groups. During this period, Goshen also transitioned its governance structure from a single‑board Council to Elders and Deacons.

Pastor Nelson guided the congregation through several significant challenges. During the COVID‑19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the church responded by holding worship services outdoors. In 2024 another fire struck Goshen, this one located in the youth room forcing the congregation to meet offsite temporarily, and later in the Family Life Center during cleanup and restoration. Through each disruption, the church family walked together with resilience and faith.
