Reverend Robert Compton served as the second Goshen Baptist pastor from 1832 - 1834, 1835 - 1836, 1839 - 1841, and 1851 - 1856.

On January 14, 1832, Rev. Robert Compton entered his first term as senior pastor of Goshen Baptist Church, marking the beginning of a long and recurring ministry. He served for two years, guiding the congregation until the return of Rev. Siegfried.

Compton resumed leadership in July 1835, beginning his second term, which continued until February 1836. Three years later, in December 1839, he accepted a third call to the pastorate—this time supported by the Philadelphia Baptist Mission Board, whose assistance helped sustain the church during a period of limited financial resources.

During this third term, a significant milestone in Goshen’s history occurred: on May 16, 1840, the women of the congregation organized the church’s first missionary group, known as “The Female Missionary Society.” This organization became an important part of Goshen’s developing mission efforts.

When Rev. Compton resigned in 1841, the church again found itself without pastoral leadership. Financial hardship appears to have been the primary obstacle, leaving the congregation without a minister for several months.

A decade later, in 1851, Robert Compton returned once more—this time for his fourth and final term as pastor.
