Go Visit the Bible Project

A couple weeks ago Dave Thomas shared his story of faith and renewed life in Jesus Christ (thanks, Dave—so encouraging!).  He mentioned the Bible Project, which is a terrific free resource for learning God’s Word.  Check it out on YouTube—they currently have 100 videos on their channel.

Bible Project founders Tim Mackie and Jon Collins are eager to help people get past that sense of being overwhelmed or even discouraged by Scripture:  “We believe the Bible is a profound and very beautiful book that’s telling one complete story from beginning to end.  But it’s also a very long book, and it’s often confusing and intimidating.”

So they’ve developed a set of short video tutorials taking two different approaches.  First, book-by-book, overviewing the structure and message of each book of the Bible (some New Testament videos are still “under construction”).  Here’s how they put it:  “This series has a video for every book of the Bible that outlines its literary design and main ideas, showing you how it fits into the entire biblical story.”

And second, biblical themes—like messiah, kingdom, covenant, law, sacrifice and atonement.  And it’s wise to approach the Bible in these two ways:  examining each book for its distinctive message, and also exploring the strands of thought that run from Genesis to Revelation.  We need to know the specific claims that God inspired the authors of Scripture to make in each psalm or letter or gospel, and we need to know the grand, sweeping truths that run through the whole Bible.

These visual resources are terrific for spiritual seekers who want to examine the Bible, and for dedicated Christians who desire a clearer grasp of God’s message in Scripture.  The combination of concise, clear teaching and creative visual illustration give Bible Project videos a unique quality and a high value.  And you can watch them all for free!

Consider using these videos to help set the stage for your Bible Study or Community Group as you focus attention on Scripture.  Also, you might find these materials to be refreshing for your personal study and devotional life—to help you get your bearings next time you open up the Bible to Exodus, Zechariah, or Hebrews.  Go take a look!
